\nResumen<\/strong>
\nEl 27 de marzo de 1961 la Polic\u00eda acab\u00f3 con la vida de Javier Batarrita en un control a la entrada de Bilbao. El gobernador civil de Vizcaya inform\u00f3 de que su coche hab\u00eda sido confundido con el de unos \u201cterroristas\u201d. En el juico los polic\u00edas y guardias civiles procesados fueron absueltos. Ahora bien, la versi\u00f3n m\u00e1s extendida es que se trat\u00f3 de una \u201cejecuci\u00f3n extrajudicial\u201d para matar a tres l\u00edderes de ETA. La finalidad del presente trabajo es averiguar qu\u00e9 ocurri\u00f3 realmente aquel d\u00eda. Adem\u00e1s, se pretenden extraer algunas lecciones acerca de la instrumentalizaci\u00f3n del pasado en el Pa\u00eds Vasco.

\nAbstract<\/strong>
\nOn March 27, 1961, the police killed Javier Batarrita in a checkpoint at the entrance to Bilbao. The civil governor of Vizcaya reported that his car had been mistaken for “terrorists”. In court, the police and civil guards were absolved. Now, the most widespread version is that it was an “extrajudicial execution” to kill three ETA leaders. The purpose of this paper is to find out what really happened that day. In addition, some conclusions can be drawn on the use of the past in the Basque Country.
