\nResumen<\/strong>
\nPartiendo de un concepto laxo de hispanismo, este art\u00edculo analiza las numerosas aportaciones que han hecho autores italianos, franceses, alemanes, brit\u00e1nicos, norteamericanos y de otros pa\u00edses al estudio de la cuesti\u00f3n vasca, entendida en sentido amplio, desde la \u00faltima guerra carlista en el siglo XIX hasta la actualidad. Nuestro objeto de estudio es la historiograf\u00eda acad\u00e9mica, relegando la literatura hist\u00f3rica militante; pero tambi\u00e9n incluimos las obras que abordan el caso vasco desde las ciencias sociales, en particular la antropolog\u00eda, la sociolog\u00eda y la ciencia pol\u00edtica. Los estudios de esos autores extranjeros se han centrado sobre todo en la historia del nacionalismo vasco, predominando el tiempo presente y el nacionalismo radical y violento de ETA, que no todos han sido capaces de analizar con la suficiente objetividad. El otro per\u00edodo que ha suscitado mayor inter\u00e9s en ellos ha sido la Guerra Civil, en especial la destrucci\u00f3n de Gernika y su repercusi\u00f3n internacional. En cambio, escasean las obras de s\u00edntesis sobre la historia contempor\u00e1nea de Euskadi escritas por hispanistas o cient\u00edficos sociales extranjeros.

\nAbstract<\/strong>
\nDeparting from a lax concept of Hispanism, this article analyzes the numerous contributions that Italian, French, German, British, North American, and other authors from various countries have made to the study of the Basque question, understood broadly, from the last Carlist War in the nineteenth century to the present day. Our object of study is academic historiography, setting aside partisan historical literature; but we also include treatises from the social sciences that broach the Basque case, particularly from anthropology, sociology, and political science. Studies by those foreign authors have focused mainly on the history of Basque nationalism, predominantly on the present time and on the violent and radical nationalism of ETA, which not all have been capable of analyzing with sufficient objectivity. The other period that has provoked the most interest among them has been the Civil War, especially the destruction of Gernika and its international repercussions. However, there are few surveys of modern Basque history written by foreign Hispanists or social scientists.
