\nEste trabajo analiza el s\u00edndrome del norte, un constructo psicopatol\u00f3gico utilizado para describir y entender las alteraciones psicol\u00f3gicas que presentaban algunos guardias civiles y polic\u00edas destinados en el Pa\u00eds Vasco o Navarra durante los a\u00f1os de actividad terrorista de la organizaci\u00f3n terrorista ETA. Para entender las caracter\u00edsticas y factores relacionados con el s\u00edndrome del norte, en este primer trabajo, tras describir su desarrollo e historia, se revisan sistem\u00e1ticamente las sentencias judiciales espa\u00f1olas que, a partir de informes psicol\u00f3gicos, psiqui\u00e1tricos o m\u00e9dicos forenses, han discutido o utilizado el constructo. Los resultados de la revisi\u00f3n permiten concluir que este constructo no se refiere a un trastorno psicol\u00f3gico concreto, sino a un conjunto de trastornos psicol\u00f3gicos, principalmente y por este orden, trastornos depresivos, trastorno de estr\u00e9s postraum\u00e1tico, trastornos de ansiedad y trastornos de la personalidad. El constructo implica suponer que la situaci\u00f3n gravemente estresante o incluso traum\u00e1tica que vivieron los guardias civiles y polic\u00edas destinados en el Pa\u00eds Vasco y Navarra es la causa necesaria y principal, aunque no \u00fanica ni suficiente, de los trastornos psicol\u00f3gicos que padecieron algunos de ellos. \nAbstract<\/strong>
\nThis work analyzes the Northern syndrome, a psychopathological construct used to describe and understand the psychological alterations presented by some civil guards and police officers stationed in the Basque Country or Navarra during the years of terrorist activity of the terrorist organization ETA. In order to understand the characteristics and factors related to the Northern syndrome, in this first work, after describing its development and history, we systematically review the Spanish judicial sentences that, based on psychological, psychiatric or forensic medical reports, have discussed or used the construct. The results of the review allow us to conclude that this construct does not refer to a specific psychological disorder, but to a group of psychological disorders, mainly and in this order, depressive disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders. The construct implies assuming that the severely stressful or even traumatic situation experienced by the civil guards and police stationed in the Basque Country and Navarra is the necessary and main cause, although not the only or sufficient cause, of the psychological disorders that some of them suffered. This implication has been recognized by a third of the sentences reviewed, but not by the majority. [vc_empty_space height=”10″]
