\nEn este art\u00edculo se ofrece, primero, una s\u00edntesis de algunos debates te\u00f3ricos acerca de la acci\u00f3n colectiva, segundo, una discusi\u00f3n del concepto de nuevos movimientos sociales y, tercero, un estudio de caso sobre la interacci\u00f3n de acciones violentas y no violentas en torno a la controversia nuclear en Euskadi. Este \u00faltimo tema facilita una v\u00eda para tocar campos de an\u00e1lisis como la relevancia de la participaci\u00f3n de los movimientos sociales en la Transici\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola, las complejas relaciones entre conflictividad social y violencia pol\u00edtica y el papel de la sociedad civil en los procesos de democratizaci\u00f3n.

\nAbstract<\/strong>
\nThis article offers, first of all, a synthesis of some theoretical debates on collective action; secondly, a discussion on the concept of new social movements and, in the third place, a case study about the interaction of violent and non-violent action in the nuclear power controversy in the Basque Country. A historical analysis on the latter topic gives us the chance to include aspects such as the relevance of the participation of the social movements in the Spanish Transition, the complex relations between social conflicts and political violence, and the role of the civil society in the process of democratization.
