[vc_empty_space height=”10″]
Abstract
In this article, I propose to analyse how some (mini)fiction series of the last decade on ETA terrorism –especially El precio de la libertad and El asesinato de Carrero Blanco (2011), La línea invisible (2020) and, to a lesser extent, Patria (2020)– deal with the complex anti-Franco legacy of the early ETA. From the mythification of some legitimising figures such as the poet Lauaxeta, of some foundational moments in the fight against Francoism and of some members who became heroes of the cause under Francoism (Txabi Etxebarrieta, Mario Onaindia, Argala), the first three series offer a media reading of the roots of Basque terrorism and the fourth echoes this legacy in the terrorism of the years of lead. Although they sometimes draw on ETA’s memorialist discourse on its own victims and martyrs –the figure of the gudari, or the civil war as an episode of the ancestral conflict– in order to better demonstrate its fallacy, they have the merit of questioning some clichés arising from the “battle of the story” to the point of endangering the dissemination or reception of these series.
