\nLa bibliograf\u00eda sobre la organizaci\u00f3n terrorista vasca ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna) es ampl\u00edsima, aunque de calidad muy desigual. Algunos de los mitos de la literatura militante han sido desmontados por la historiograf\u00eda, pero otros siguen siendo objeto de debate. Uno de ellos es precisamente la fecha de la fundaci\u00f3n de ETA, en la que se centra este art\u00edculo. Se analiza el proceso que dio lugar a la creaci\u00f3n de la organizaci\u00f3n terrorista, as\u00ed como las diversas teor\u00edas en torno a su fecha de nacimiento. El art\u00edculo demuestra que, seg\u00fan las fuentes disponibles en la actualidad, ETA naci\u00f3 en julio de 1959, desmintiendo el intento de invenci\u00f3n de la tradici\u00f3n que, por motivos ideol\u00f3gicos, ha tendido a adelantar la fecha fundacional de ETA a diciembre de 1958.

\nAbstract<\/strong>
\nThe bibliography on the Basque terrorist organization ETA (Euskadi Ta Askatasuna) is almost unlimited, although uneven in quality. Some of the myths created by militant literature have been denied by historiography, but others are still under discussion. One of them is precisely the date of the foundation of ETA, on which this paper focuses. It analyses the process that led to the creation of the terrorist organization, as well as the different theories about its date of birth. This article proves that, according to the available sources, ETA was born in July 1959. Moreover, it refutes the attempted invention of tradition that, for ideological reasons, has tended to bring forward the foundation date of ETA to December 1958.
