\nEste art\u00edculo estudia la formaci\u00f3n del Estatuto de Autonom\u00eda del Pa\u00eds Vasco. Aprobado en octubre de 1979, desarrollaba una concepci\u00f3n nacionalista del autogobierno, pese a la importancia electoral que ten\u00edan los no nacionalistas -casi la mitad de los votos-. Las razones que provocaron ese resultado fueron muy diversas: la debilidad del centro-derecha en el Pa\u00eds Vasco; la defensa de una autonom\u00eda amplia por todas las fuerzas antifranquistas; el enorme impacto del terrorismo, que cre\u00f3 una profunda crisis social; la necesidad que tuvo UCD de encontrar apoyos locales para la autonom\u00eda vasca, lo que permiti\u00f3 el protagonismo del PNV. \nAbstract<\/strong>
\nThis paper studies the formation of the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country. It was approved in October 1979 and developed a nationalist conception of self-government, despite the electoral significance of non-nationalists, who held almost half of the votes. The reasons that caused this result were diverse. Amongst them: the weakness of the centre-right in the Basque Country; the defence of a wide autonomy by all anti-franquist forces; the huge impact of terrorism, which created a profound social crisis; UCD\u2019s need of finding local support for Basque autonomy, which permitted the promience of the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV).
